World Leaders met in New York in September 2010 to review progress on the Millennium Development Goals or MDGs. In some parts of the world efforts to meet these anti-poverty targets are falling far short. So who’s to blame? Watch Zeinab Badawi and her panel in this BBC World Debate as we ask “The MDGs: What’s holding us back?”

Therer is a lot of mony that comes from donors abroad and these donors do not screen well the beneficiaries as they come in forms of NGO’s. I am also from an NGO and I came to know about all the activities when a lady approached me and said that she wanted to put a banner in front of my house as the donor will come and see. If that is the way the screening is done then the poor will not benefit by anything. It is only the lady who has formed her own trust with her relatives and a few politicians who have already approached her for 200 or 300 crores each and she even promised me too. She had taken a few doner’s on a trip around to show them her so called schools or projects and they may believe her. Some RBI (Reserve bank of India staff) are sending agents to contact her. They are also asking their cut. then in the ministry of finance some corrupt officer is straight away asking for 50 lacs..As she was making a project for 3000-3500 crores. can you believe it. She has just a small village school with hardly 50 students. ,So if 1 NGO is capable of doing this then naturally the poor will never get their due.
When also talking of faith groups and religious institutions. There are some that are genuinely for the uplift of the poor, but there are some that are taking funds and living it up King size. They even increase the number of orphans they have just to get more benefits. Why can’t they trust on God. Look at Mother Theresa, she started with nothing but with her heart set out to help the poor, as God had chosen her and he showed her the way guiding her and her institution and she has never allowed her institution to organize anything for benefits but believes that God will deliver and he did. Do the work of God and he will see the rest. The need of the hour to eradicate poverty is the heart to really do justice to them and not the power and the positions in the Society. Once we are blinded with all that we then give the corrupt a chance as they keep us shut with positions that we fall for… There will come a time when there will only be the very poor and the very rich.. The rich are the most welcomed even in the Church of God. ..Change all that and then only can we talk of eradicating poverty…People look up to church leaders and if they start playing politics as is happening now then we have grave danger awaiting our society….everything has to be paid for nowadays…A time will come ( in fact it already has)when one has to pay a bribe to get admission into school, to go to college, to get a job, to get licenses, to get to live in peace, to get access to the Human rights etc…the poor will never be heard in that situation as they cannot pay.. Moral values have also faded in our societies, we all seem to think our lives are fine because we have the money…That is the danger as the SYSTEM is failing and we should hope and pray that we don’t fall victim into that failed corrupt system…
